RCE information

RCE is a new enhanced region protection system which is used mainly with region 1 discs. All KeyMasters, except a small percentage, are compatible with this new system. In general, all KeyMasters with manual region selection has no problem with RCE at all. This new system has been developed to prohibit export of region 1 discs; primarily from USA. As of now several titles (e.g. The Patriot and The Hollow Man) utilises this new coding system. We at StoneDesign believe that it is important for the KeyMaster to have manual selection as well as automatic in order to be able to play RCE encoded discs; no matter which region the disc is intended for.

As of now only movie companies like Columbia Tristar supports RCE, but 99.5% of our customers will never encounter any problems at all if using KeyMaster. Furthermore, when RCE2 is introduced, DVD players which have a KeyMaster installed will continue to function properly where other products will fail.

One of two things happens when a dvd player will not play an RCE disc. Either a wrong region text will be shown, or a map of the world with a text saying that this dvd disc is not intended to be played on a codefree player will be shown. This may also occur when using a KeyMaster which supports RCE. In such a case you just select the region manually, or use a work-around as described here.

For further reference, please turn to our included operating instructions.

The following list is a legend of how RCE support is represented on the supported players page.

OKAY - RCE discs will play, but you might have to select region 1 manually.

HINT - Partly okay, you have to use a work-around to get past the RCE coding.

NO - This KeyMaster is not compatible with RCE discs; we are working on an update.

??? - Status unknown as of now.
